He Took His Shirts, I Kept the Bankbooks

by Sallie
(USA)

As a working woman, I've always pulled my own weight financially or even been the main source of income.

My life partner left abruptly when I became ill. He was always joking about people who went out for a pack of cigarettes and never came back. I didn't know that was his life plan.

He took his shirts. However, he left the bankbooks at home. With some good legal advice, I transferred everything into my name.

Sometimes I feel guilty about it, but he got a whole new life. I am still recovering eight years later from losing my health, my job, my man, my home, and my dogs.
